Asin Thottumkal won the Best Debut Female Award for her role in Ghajini at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) 2009 awards at Macau. Thousands of specatators and fans had gathered to get a glimpse their favourite stars, and Asin walked the red carpet leading to the event auditorium.

Asin, the queen who stole many hearts, shot to fame all over India with Ghajini in Hindi opposite Aamir Khan. She is also remembered for her great performance in Dasavathaaram opposite Kamal Haasan.

Millions of people around the world watched the Award show which was attended by many bigwigs of Bollywood. The IIFA Award ceremony is one of the biggest celebrations of Indian cinema, and this year was no different! Asin started off with Tamil cinema, and is today on the front cover of every top magazine.

Asin the hot property of Bollywood gets a marriage proposal from one of her ardent fans. Recently, Asin received a marriage proposal from a fan with style. Along with a touching love letter, he sent to her a diamond studded ring.

Asin is stuck by her fans expensive move, she confirmed the news but refused to comment on the matter as it was too personal, “It’s an extremely personal issue involving a fan and I wouldn’t really like to comment on it", quips Asin.

According to an insider, Asin was swayed away with the warmth of his fan and at the same time she was embarrassed to get such an expensive gift from someone whom she doesn’t know and to some extent the particular guy also knows what would be her answer.

All hopes of the curvaceous beauty returning to Kollywood, may be given up now. Yes, the time has really come, despite the actress still mouthing her ‘I-want-to-act-in-a-Tamil-movie-and-am-waiting-for-the-right-script’ routine. The actress, who has moved into her own apartment in Mumbai, has made plans to sell her Harrington Road home.

Despite being a Malayalam heroine, Asin courted fame only through her Tamil films, from ‘Pokkiri’ with Vijay, to ‘Ghajini’ with Suriya. It was, in fact, her last role that got her a ticket to act in Bollywood, with none less than Aamir Khan.

And with the film’s success, Asin has clearly moved lock, stock and barrel to Bollywood, in pursuit of a bigger career there.

Yet, there had been talks of her returning to Tamil films, like how Shriya did, after a few flops in Hindi. Asin has been lucky that way, being launched through a big film like ‘Ghajini’, and is being flooded with offers there.

And so, it seems like a remote possibility for her to come back to Kodambakkam. And realizing this, perhaps, the actress has decided to give up her home in Chetpet.

The film world and IPL have literally become two faces of the same coin! After Shahrukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty, now Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and filmmaker Priyadarshan are getting ready to float a brand-new Kerala IPL team with the BCCI planning to include more teams into the tournament. Though the dotted line is far from being signed, it is heard that actress Asin (who hails from Kerala) would be the brand ambassador of the team.

Sources say Mohanlal will soon approach the Kerala Cricket Association to know about the formalities. Shashi Tharoor, Union Minister of State for External Affairs, has been already roped in as chairman of their team and once get the approval, the Kerala IPL team will debut in the next IPL in 2010.

Both Mohanlal and Priyadarshan are friends from their childhood days and used to play together for a local team City Cricketers; Priyan was opening batsman while Lal was an all-rounder. Notably, Priyadarshan recently used his friendship with Shahrukh Khan to send five promising cricketers from Kerala – Mohammed Niaz, Mohammed Sanuth, Rohan Prem, P Prashanth and Sanju V Samson – to attend the selection trials of the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Asin Thottumkal, born on October 26, 1985 is now one of the best indian film actresses. She began her career acting in minor roles as a supporting artist in the Malayalam cinema industry, while also attending an acting studio, to follow her dream to act. After her debut in the Malayalam film industry, she acted in Telugu language films in which Asin gained Indian cinema’s attention in 2003 by playing the role of Vasantha in Shivamani 9848022338 , her first major hit. The Tamil language film, Ghajini, is her first blockbuster, and since then she has acted in over twenty Indian films, with her main intention being Tamil language ventures. She, like many other actors has had a rich upbringing into the industry, with her father, Joseph Thottumkal being a noted businessman (& ex-C.B.I officer ) and her mother, Celine Thottumkal, being a doctor.

CAREER

Asin Thottumkal debuted in the Malayalam film Narendra Makan Jayakanthan Vaka in 2001, directed by Sathyan Anthikkad. Her breakthrough as an actress came with her first Telugu language film when she played the role of a Tamil girl in the successful Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi opposite Ravi Teja.

Initially many in the Tamil industry considered her to be a jinx as the initial movies she signed in Tamil were either canceled, delayed or faced financial problems. Although she signed Ullam Ketkumae as her first Tamil film, her first release was M. Kumaran son of Mahalakshmi which was a remake of her Telugu film “Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi”. The movie went on to be one of the biggest hits in 2004 and introduced Asin to Kollywood.

Her movie Ghajini with Surya, which was released both in Tamil and Telugu, was a box office hit in both industries. She has become famous since then and went on to win the Filmfare Best Actress Award South for her role in Ghajini. Many movies followed and Asin played opposite some popular actors in South Indian Cinema, among them Kamal Hassan, Surya, Vijay, Vikram and Ajith,Jayam Ravi with whom she starred in Pokkiri with Vijay, Gharshana with Venkatesh, and Varalaru & Aalwar with Ajith Kumar,Dasavatharam with Kamal Haasan and it is dubbed in 8 languages including Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Bhojpuri, Marathi and Hindi.
